Competition Rules & Registration

Eligibility: Competitors must be at least 16 years old to participate. Both individual and teams are welcome to compete.

Registration: Competitors must register in advance to secure their spot in the competition. Registration must be done online through our website. Entry fees must be paid in full at the time of registration to confirm participation.

Categories and Entries:

  • KMC BBQ PRO: Participants will be evaluated in three categories: Beef, Pork, and Poultry. All dishes must be prepared on-site. Each participant may submit one dish per category.
  • Entry fee $150

Cooking Guidelines: All dishes must be prepared using a barbecue grill or smoker. Competitors are responsible for bringing their own cooking equipment, ingredients, and utensils. Cooking must be done in a safe and hygienic manner. Any meat used must be properly handled and cooked to the required temperature for food safety. Note: if any of the the competitors food, seasoning, or sauces contains any known allergens must be noted during turn in and at their station. Each team must wear a hair net while cooking to include gloves and meat thermometer.

Samples and Sales:  Competitors should provide bit size samples for 15 people that will judge for the People's Choice Award.  Additionally, you may sale or ask for donations for other food items you prepare. 

Judging Criteria: Dishes will be judged based on taste, tenderness, appearance, and overall presentation. Judges' decisions are final and binding.

Entries may be turned in five (5) minutes before to five (5) minutes after the stated turn-in times, announced at the cooks' meeting.

Absolute Score. Judges will consider appearance, taste, and tenderness, and assign each entry an overall score from 1 to 5 as follows:

5 - Excellent

4 - Good

4 - Average

2 - Below Average

1 - Poor

DQ - Disqualifying

Disqualification. Judges will disqualify any entry with a marked turn-in container; foreign object in the container; meat not cooked completely; incorrect meat; or insufficient portion(s) from the shorted judge(s).

Relative Score. In addition, each judge will rank the qualifying entries in order of preference from best to worst.

How the Winner is Determined. The winning entries will be based upon the best cumulative rank (relative scores) from each of the judges. In the event of a tie, the entry with the best absolute scores from the judges will win. If an entry is tied in both relative and absolute scoring, a coin toss will decide the winner.

Timeline: Competitors must adhere to the designated cooking and serving times for each category. Any dishes submitted after the designated time will not be considered for judging.

Schedule: A schedule will be provided on 1 May 2026. 

Awards and Prizes: The KMC BBQ BASH PRO champion will receive a cash prize, a trophy, and the esteemed title as the 2026 KMC BBQ BASH Festival Champion. 

Sportsmanship: Competitors are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and sportsmanlike manner. Any unsportsmanlike behavior may result in disqualification from the competition.

Liability: Competitors are responsible for their own actions and belongings during the competition. Organizers and event staff are not liable for any accidents, injuries, or damages that may occur.

Compliance: Competitors must comply with all rules and regulations set forth by the event organizers. Failure to comply may result in disqualification from the competition. These rules are designed to ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all participants. Good luck to all competitors!

NOTE: Each team must include at least one individual who possesses a food handler's permit provided by public health.

NOTE: There will be NO parking of vehicles inside the competition area.
